The display comes as a follow up of the very successful exhibition Tradition, Modernism, Urban Fabric that had presented works and projects of the J+A Philippou Architects & Engineers in the context of the program YK:EMX: Under Construction – Alternative Museum Spaces.
Through a broken mirror continues the overview of the Cypriot architectural field and offers the opportunity to have a different look at Zenon Sierepeklis’s work in Cyprus. By presenting some of the architect’s most important works, either completed or under study, next to his works as a photographer, a sculptor or a painter and his interviews and articles in the press, we can have a complete idea of the man. Randomly placed, these works seem as part of a complete ensemble that helps the visitor to clearly understand the artist’s thoughts and work.
Curators of the exhibition are Charis Christodoulou and Aggela Zisimopoulou.
Zenon Sierepeklis is one of the most important representatives of contemporary architecture in Cyprus. He was born in Paphos in 1947 and opened his architectural office in Nicosia after completing his studies in Rome. He has won 23 architectural competitions and won eight awards. He has also won the State Prize of Architecture twice, in 1998 and 2007. In 2008 the Cyprus Architects Association awarded him for the whole of his career achievements.
Parallel to his work as an architect, Sierepeklis is also a photographer with numerous solo and group shows throughout his career. In 2006 he published his first book titled 6x6+2, which includes a collection of his most important photographs. He is currently teaching at the Architectural School of the University of Nicosia.
