Eight Cultural Tours from November 2009 until May 2010 are on offer by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and those interested in exploring some of the most beautiful hidden treasures of the tiny island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean should take them seriously under consideration. Enhancing the understanding of the local culture and serving to encourage appreciation of Maltese historical heritage and traditions these special Sunday tours are designed to satisfy the most demanding of the cultural travellers.

The season opens November 15 with a tour to Mellieħa and the surroundings and concludes May 2, 2010, with a full day trip to Gozo.

The programme of visits is as follows:

November 15, 2009
Mellieħa and the surroundings: Visit to the War Shelters, the Tuna Fishing and Agricultural Museum, a chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady and the nature reserve in Għadira

December 6, 2009
Cottonera-Bir Mula Heritage: Visit to the cloister and undergrounds burial place in St Theresa Church, the model of a church decorated for the feast, St Margaret Church and St John’s Chapel in Ta’ Għuxa

January 24th 2010
Villa Francia in Ħal-Lija: Visit to the Carmelite Museum in Mdina, the Stagno Palace in Ħal Qormi and the Australian bungalow and the national centre for research and agricultural development of Għamieri

February 21, 2010
In Paola area: Visit to the mosque, Sant’Ubaldesca Church and the exhibition 5000 years of history and 100 years as a Parish, the Church of Saint Bartholomew in Ħal Tarxien and the historical remains of Corradino

March 7, 2010
Floriana and Valletta: Visit to Sir Temi Zammit laboratory and Palazzo Castellania’s underground prison cells, St Andrew’s Scots Church, the Archbishop’s Curia, Milorda Gardens and the Knights of St John (embassy of the Order in Malta)

March 28, 2010
Holy week cult: Visit to the exhibitions and re-enactments related to this time of the year in Ħal Qormi, Ħaż-Żebbuġ u Ħal-Luqa

April 11, 2010
In Birkirkara: Visit to the Aula Capitularis in the Basilica of Saint Helen, a limestone miniature model of Saint Helen’s church, the church dedicated to Our Lady of Tal-Ħerba, the old parish dedicated to Saint Mary and shelters of World War II

May 2, 2010
Full day cultural tour in Gozo
