From the rain forests of the Amazon to the blissful coastline of Bahia and from the breathtaking cityscapes of Rio to the spectacular natural wonder of the Iguazu Falls, the spirit of Brazil spreads over the tiny little island of Cyprus for two months each year in a celebration of the uniqueness of South America’s biggest nation. This year, in October and November, the Brazilian Culture Month presents its sixth edition with concerts and recitals, films, book presentations, exhibitions and educational programs. Bemvido em Chipre!

The annual event is the fruit of cooperation between the Pharos Arts Foundation with the Honorary Consulate of Brazil in Cyprus and the non-resident Embassy of Brazil to Cyprus. The Brazilian Culture Month 2009 includes a series of events that showcase aspects of the country's arts and culture through art exhibitions, concerts, films, books and educational programmes.

Events include the 6th Brazilian Film Festival, the Brazilian Book Month, a guitar recital by Cypriot artist Dimitris Regginos in an all Villa-Lobos programme, a Brazilian jazz concert by the internationally acclaimed guitarist/composer Chico Pinheiro and his group, the educational programme Brazil in the Primary School, an art exhibition by contemporary Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó, as well as Mara Lucia Cattani’s Book Exhibition and the launch of a major publication on the work of Brazilian artist Anna Maria Maiolino.

More specifically, the programme includes:
