Springtime and the following winter is going to be anything but boring in Athens. With so many live concerts scheduled all around the city, there’s no excuse for not going out. We looked through many lists of dozens of international names coming to the Greek capital right after summer, from early September until just before Christmas and we ended up with a shortlist of 21 live gigs that you should try not to miss. Enjoy…

In September we have the R&B revelation Joss Stone, Almodovar’s muse Luz Casal, Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western Orchestra, afro-blues from Amadou & Mariam, the tenor José Carreras, violin playing pop star Vanessa Mae and the rockers Vietnam Veterans (aka The Gitanes).

October is the month for oldies but goodies Robin Williamson and the long beard ZZ Top, as well as Tarja's strong vocals, the Alpha Blondy & The Solar System and the futuristic sounds of the VNV Nation. And of course, for the lovers of musical, Singing in the Rain right from London!

In November the all American diva Beyonce, comes to town, followed by jazz master Branford Marsalis, the Big Brother & The Holding Company resurrecting Janis Joplin onstage; also Baby Woodrose comes back from the good old rocking days and the Norwegian Ulver take us to the underworld.

And in December we dance our hearts out with the gypsy sounds of the Gogol Bordelo from New York, the progressive rock of the Red Snapper and the tribute to The Clash with the Rebel Truce.

Here’s what we propose in detail…

Joss Stone
British vocalist Joss Stone was only 16 years old when she appeared on the universal pop/rock radar in 2003 with a grownup sound that belied her young age. Six years later, Stone has garnered a devoted audience at home and abroad, first for her reinterpretations of classic soul gems and, one year later, for her song writing chops and sultry delivery. Stone has fashioned a remarkable debut that -with its irresistible fatback drums, swirling organ, and funked-up guitar- takes the listener back to the golden years of early 1970s R&B.

Baby Woodrose
Baby Woodrose knows rock history very well. With great nods of appreciation to bands such as Electric Prunes and The Seeds, the three-piece takes the Rodeo Stage this November. And what to do for a band that is used to standing right next to one another in small, hot rock venues? Well, they will simply put their drums and amps right next to another at the centre of the big stage, ignoring the great widths of it all - and then just focuse on rocking out.
